Conclusion & Suggestions

Overall, the American Apparel site offers a relatively convincing and effective rhetorical argument. We all know that sex sells; American Apparel does an excellent job of equating their clothes with youth and virility on a streamlined site that can be reasonably navigated. The site does suffer from distracting qualities though, most blatant among them being nudity and the objectifiying of women; more subtly is the navigation.

In a way my site has been critiquing their site offering redesign suggestions all along. Suggesting American Apparel tone down the sexuality of their site and overall marketing is beyond the scope of this analysis; however, American Apparel could most certainly improve their customer experience by revising a couple aspects of their site.

First, I chose to redesign the main navigation solving issues with proximity, contrast and alignment. I have also created a logo for American Apparel using an idea of their's, the uppercase and lowercase A, and combining it with an American flag to send the message: America is many things to many people and as you enter this site know that this might not exactly be your view of America, but nonentheless it is someone's view perhaps not to be agreed with or accepted, but respected.

Rhetoric, after all, is a means of creating a world or in this case a country.
